The Dark Side Of The Moon Immersion Box Set Is Your Reality Altering Deal of the Day [Dealzmodo]

Marijuana. LSD. Shrooms. PCP. Ketamine. MDMA. DMT. Salvia. Ayahuasca. Hashish. I can assure you none of those have anything to do with today's deal, which is a special CD/DVD box set for Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. The set presents the album in 5.1 surround, quadraphonic sound, and an uncompressed stereo mix of the album along with some special audio-visual material. And at $63, its more than half off its $150 list price. Yep, the former is completely unrelated to the latter. Promise. -AC More »

Messi gives Barcelona 2-1 win at Atletico Madrid

By JOSEPH WILSON

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) -With Barcelona's faint Spanish league title hopes fading, Lionel Messi scored from a crafty free kick late on to give Barcelona a 2-1 win at Atletico Madrid on Sunday and keep his team in the chase.

Despite its first away victory in three games, Barcelona is still 10 points adrift of leader Real Madrid thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo's superb back-heeled goal in his team's hard-fought 1-0 win at Rayo Vallecano earlier.

After Radamel Falcao had canceled out Dani Alves' opener for Barcelona, Messi caught Atletico's players unawares while they were trying to form a defensive wall by looping a perfectly placed shot into the far side of the net in the 81st minute.

Messi's own bit of brilliance took his league tally to 28 goals- one behind Ronaldo's 29.

"A leader is someone who steps up when the team needs him and Leo has been doing that for the past four years," said Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola, who also acknowledged that his team's shot at winning a fourth straight league title since he took charge is slim.

"I don't believe we will win the league. But I hope we will compete like we did today and that we will compete in the Champions League and Copa del Rey final."

Barcelona dominated possession from the start at Vicente Calderon stadium, patiently probing for a way through an Atletico team on a nine-game unbeaten streak since the arrival of coach Diego Simeone.

Xavi Hernandez, on his return to Barcelona's starting 11, came close in the second minute while Messi had a goal disallowed shortly after for using his hand to control the ball. It was the Argentina forward's fifth yellow card, meaning he will miss next week's match against Sporting Gijon.

Barcelona finally broke through with Dani Alves' goal in the 36th. Messi set up the goal by drawing in a swarm of defenders at the top of the box before laying the ball off, allowing Cesc Fabregas to cross to the far post for the Brazil right back to fire home.

"I saw the space open up after my teammates' fantastic combination and I scored off a great set-up by Cesc," Dani Alves said. "Winning in stadiums like this one strengthens you moving forward."

Atletico pressed for an equalizer after halftime. That came four minutes later when striker Falcao knocked in a poor clearance by Sergio Busquets for his 15th goal of the league campaign.

With the score level, the game turned into an up-and-down contest marred by fouls that favored Atletico's more aggressive style.

The hosts looked set to keep Barcelona winless in three straight away games until Messi saw the chance for his 43rd goal of the season in all competitions. The three-time Ballon D'Or winner executed the long-range strike from the left to perfection, his shot leaving goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to look on helplessly.

After Rayo had outplayed its crosstown rivals in the first half, Ronaldo pounced on a loose ball in the area and flicked it through a pack of defenders with his back to the net in the 54th minute to give Madrid its ninth straight away victory.

"It was a great goal," Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas said. "I saw the back-heeled shot and I didn't think it was going in, but it was a great touch of class that he pulled out of nowhere."

Rayo, which entered the game on a three-game winning run, almost went in front before halftime when Francisco "Piti" Medina latched onto a pass, cut back and sent a rising shot off the post.

After the break, Madrid gained control and soon went ahead when Ronaldo scored his 37th goal in all competitions this season.

The game, however, swung back in Rayo's favor in the last 15 minutes to keep the result in doubt until the final whistle.

Miguel "Michu" Perez slipped while shooting and sent the ball high in the 73rd. Two minutes later, Jose Casado's long blast forced Casillas to stretch and tip the ball wide, and Emiliano Armenteros had a great chance to equalize but failed to convert in front of an open net in the dying moments.

"Rayo didn't deserve to lose," said a gracious Jose Mourinho, who gave credit to his defense. "A draw would have been fair because they were a fantastic opponent. If we hadn't played so well in the back we wouldn't have won."

Also on Sunday, it was: Villarreal 2, Athletic Bilbao 2; Valencia 1, Sevilla 2; Osasuna 2, Granada 1 and Real Sociedad 1, Mallorca 0.

Anonymous vandalizes US prison contractors' site

Hackers allied to the loose-knit Anonymous movement have claimed responsibility for vandalizing the website of an international prison contractor.

The GEO Group's website was defaced and replaced with a hip-hop song devoted to former death row inmate Mumia Abu Jamal.

Anonymous said Friday that the hack was "part of our ongoing efforts to dismantle the prison industrial complex."

The Boca Raton, Florida-based GEO Group provides correctional and detention services across North America, the U.K., Australia and South Africa.

The GEO Group didn't immediately return calls seeking comment.

Earlier Friday, Anonymous claimed credit for replacing the website of a Dayton, Ohio-based FBI partner group with the video for rap hit "Gangsta's Paradise."

Screenplay writing software

Published by Robertson | February 12, 2012 | | 24

Whilst screenplay writing software cannot tell you exactly how to write a script, it can help both novice and professional screenwriters in terms of character development, structure and plot development. Screenplay writing software has been around for quite a while now but a good application should allow you to use step outlining techniques in order to systematically build all the layers of a successful screenplay including script characters and plot development scene by scene. It should also allow you to customise and plan your plot structure, color code acts, rearrange scenes ,track characters and professionally format your screenplay.

Some modern applications even allow you to compare your developing script to your favourite modern or classic film scripts.? It is also wise to look for n application with simple and accessible tab panel interface which allows you to instantly choose from a selection of views as you work your way through your project.

At each step of the way, this type of interface allows you to constantly check back to your synopsis and alter your story accordingly. Alternatively, if you fins that your story is beginning to follow an unexpected yet serendipitous path, you ca n also alter your original synopsis.

A color coded system allows you to easily structure your story according to natural turning points as well as scenes or acts. You can therefore keep tabs on the overall flow and progression of your story structure at each step of the process. Feel factors such as conflict, passion and tension can also be analysed with special features, and this can allow you to gauge audience reaction and engagement with your script. Character profiles can also be referred to at any stage, which can remind the writer of character?s biographies as well as overall story arcs. It undoubtedly takes talent and determination as well as a degree of intuition to know how to write a script, especially one which captures an audience, but screenwriting software can be an extremely effective and convenient tool for a writer at any stage of professional development.

Taylor Swift: Dumped by Eddie Redmayne?

Poor Taylor Swift. Not only did this singer recently lose out on a role in Les Miserables (the part of Eponine went to Samantha Barks instead), but she reportedly lost a new love interest in the process.

According to Us Weekly, Taylor met British actor Eddie Redmayne (My Week with Marilyn) while auditioning for the character in October 2011 and "they hung out in New York City with the movie's execs. Taylor developed feelings for him fast."

The T SwizzleEddie Redmayne Picture

Redmayne, who actually attended Eton College with Prince William, felt something for Swift, as well, an insider confirms, meeting up with her on January 24 in London and staying over the next night in Taylor's hotel room. It's unclear why.

Alas, Swift returned home, learned she did NOT win the part in Les Miserables and then received doubly bad news: Redmayne was "not interested in a long-distance relationship," this source says.

Seriously, will Swift's guitar ever be free from tear drops?!?

Are we merely the sum of our neurons?

Terrence Sejnowski, contributor

Connectome-Seung-Sebastian.jpgIn Connectome: How the brain's wiring makes us who we are, Sebastian Seung explores the mapping of our circuitry and how much it can tell us about ourselves

BIOLOGY is in the midst of a revolution that is changing what we know and can know. The large-scale studies of genes and proteins, known as genomics and proteomics, have been joined in neuroscience by connectomics, the endeavour to find the complete wiring diagram of the brain - the connectome.

It is a feat so far achieved just once, for the roundworm C. elegans, which has 302 neurons to our 100 billion. What has made the "omic" sciences possible is the exponentially increasing amount of data that computers can collect and analyse. Once a certain threshold has been achieved, something that seemed impossible becomes possible, and soon becomes routine. This has already happened with genomics.

In Connectome, Sebastian Seung, a computational neuroscientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, sets the stage with an able introduction to neuroscience and genetics. He then explores, with passion, how he and others are figuring out the way neurons are connected up in big brains. With the first-person flavour of James Watson's Double Helix - an account of how DNA's structure was discovered - Connectome gives a sense of the excitement on the cutting edge of neuroscience.

Ingenious devices have been constructed to serially slice up larger and larger brains so thinly that they can be studied with an electron microscope. But then all the thin "wires" and tiny connections in the fuzzy micrographs need to be traced, and the intricately interlocking three-dimensional shape of every neuron reconstructed. Seung estimates that if we stick to the manual methods used for the roundworm, it would take a million person-years to reconstruct the wiring in a cubic millimetre of the human brain's cortex. He is on the forefront of using machine learning - a type of artificial intelligence - to reduce, though not eliminate, the human effort required. This book is the story of how this grand vision came about and the consequences for our future.

Sydney Brenner, who led the project to map the connectome of C. elegans, pointed out in a recent editorial we wrote together for Science (DOI: 10.1126/science.1215674) that the connectome was essential, but not sufficient, for explaining the worm's behaviour. Techniques for simultaneously recording activity from many neurons and synapses are also needed to achieve understanding.

Anatomy is indeed the bedrock of the brain, but if the mind is the music that neural networks play, then we will also need to bring the wiring diagram to life by simulating its electrochemical signals, and take into account the properties of the synapses and neurons at the diagram's intersections. It is a daunting task.

The final part of the book explores what might be possible once we have deciphered a wiring of the human brain, and explores the hypothesis that "you are your connectome".

If all your life experiences are coded into your brain's connections, could we someday reconstruct your wiring diagram inside a computer and simulate your mind? There are, of course, certain practical problems with this proposal, not least in stopping the information in your brain decaying after death. If "connectome death" can be halted, then at some future date a sufficiently advanced technology might allow your brain to be reconstructed and some version of you resurrected. This is the modern version of the brain in a vat, though it is not clear what could take the place of the body.

Seung once gave a talk at the Salk Institute in which he played the Vangelis theme music from the cult film Blade Runner, in which survival is a battle to secure more time. I didn't understand why at the time, but I do now.

Terrence J. Sejnowski is head of the computational neurobiology laboratory at the Salk Institute in La Jolla, California, and an investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute

Did You Know This About Green Tea and Weight Loss? | Articles123 ...

Well it?s no secret that green tea is filled with incredible healing powers, and the scientific community will probably study this plant for many years to come. Many people drink tea because they like the taste, and because it?s a stimulant, but drinking tea, and especially green tea, is beneficial in many ways. Green tea can be consumed either as the tea or in capsule form; and to see the maximum benefits you should take it every day. So we are going to talk more about this powerful plant food, and hopefully you?ll want to give it a try and use it daily.

Green tea is known to help with cholesterol issues which of course impact our cardiovascular health. Not only does it lower your total cholesterol, but it raises HDL or ?good cholesterol.? The findings on green tea and cholesterol have been performed in experiments on humans as well as animals. To gain the most from green tea, you should try to consume it daily, so that the effects can work on your body consistently.

Even more health-state supporting properties of green tea include those effective against arthritis and related problems. Green tea accomplishes this with its antioxidants and anti-inflammatory substances. As you may know, it is the inflammation of the joints that cause the pain and stiffness in arthritis; so consuming green tea every day may help with that.

There?s nothing wrong with experimenting for a month or two and observing how your arthritic joints respond.

You can do your liver a favor with the detoxification properties within green tea. Back to antioxidants, there are even more, and they?re called catechins; and they provide healthy support to your immune system. These powerful antioxidants help the liver perform its natural function of cleaning out toxins that might otherwise get stuck in your body and cause problems. To get the most protection from green tea, you would ideally consume three to four cups every day, or the equivalent of this in supplement form. As you can see, a lot has already been discovered about the amazing health benefits of green tea. What is great about this food is you can consume it in different ways. If taking a capsule works better for you than making and drinking tea, then you can do that quite easily with green tea. Do you need to take humongous quantities just to get some health benefits? A lot of people drink several cups of green tea a day, but it?s best for you to experiment and see what you like. Drinking green tea each day in a meaningful amount will be great for you for so many reasons.

The benefits of green tea are enormous and powerful, and who knows what else will become known about it. This food is flexible because you can take it as capsule, other food alternatives, and of course drink the tea. If you take it regularly, you will enjoy more of the benefits.

If you want additional points about Mini DV Tape there?s plenty of details not detailed on this page, take a look at Author?s website to uncover more.

Jobless rate at three-year low as payrolls surge (Reuters)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) ? The United States created jobs at the fastest pace in nine months in January and the unemployment rate unexpectedly dropped to a near three-year low, giving a boost to President Barack Obama.

Nonfarm payrolls jumped 243,000, the Labor Department said on Friday, as factory jobs grew by the most in a year. The jobless rate fell to 8.3 percent - the lowest since February 2009 - from 8.5 percent in December.

The gain in employment was the largest since April and it far outstripped the 150,000 predicted in a Reuters poll of economists. It hinted at underlying economic strength and lessened chances of further stimulus from the Federal Reserve.

"More pistons in the economic engine have begun to fire, pointing to accelerating economic growth. One of the happiest persons reading this job report is President Obama," said Sung Won Sohn, an economics professor at California State University Channel Islands.

The payroll gains were widespread - from retail to temporary help, and from construction to manufacturing - an indication the recovery was becoming more durable.

A survey of households showed the unemployment rate declined even as new job seekers flooded into the labor force. Economists had expected the jobless rate, which has now fallen 0.8 percentage point since August, to hold steady.

"I think this is a sign that maybe the economy is reaching that holy grail of a self-sustaining economic expansion," Stuart Hoffman, chief economist at PNC Financial Services in Pittsburgh, told Reuters Insider.

The outlook was further brightened by a separate report showing service sector activity quickened last month to a near one-year high. A gauge of service sector employment touched a six-year high.

Stocks on Wall Street were up more than 1 percent at midday, while U.S. Treasury debt prices fell sharply as investors dialed back expectations on Fed easing. The dollar rose against a basket of currencies.

The employment report contrasted with a fairly glum assessment of the economy offered by the Fed last week.

Officials at the central bank have been debating whether to buy more bonds - a program dubbed QE3 - to drive interest rates lower. It also raised doubts about the Fed's expectation that it could hold interest rates near zero at least through late 2014.

"At the very least this scales back QE3 (quantitative easing) odds. The surprisingly persistent decline in the unemployment rate also calls into question how firmly wedded the Fed is to the late-2014 rate guidance," said Michael Feroli, an economist at JPMorgan in New York.

Interest rate futures indicated that at least some traders were beginning to lay bets the Fed could move interest rates up in early 2014.

Fed fund futures were pricing in a 38 percent chance of a January 2014 rate hike, up from 29 percent before the report, and the first better than even chance of a rate hike was in April 2014, according to CME Group, where the contracts are traded.

DON'T MUCK IT UP

Obama welcomed the strong jobs report and urged Congress to extend a payroll tax cut and benefits for long-term unemployed, which expire at the end of this month.

"Now is not is not the time for self-inflicted wounds to our economy. I want to send a clear message for Congress. Do not slow down the recovery that we are on, don't muck it up," he said at a firehouse in Arlington, Virginia.

Republicans acknowledged the improvement in the labor market, but said the jobless rate was still too high.

"Our economy still isn't creating jobs the way it should be and that's why we need a new approach," said House Speaker John Boehner.

While employment growth has quickened there are no jobs for three out of every four unemployed people and 19.3 million Americans are either out of work or underemployed. The level of employment is still 5.57 million from its pre-recession level.

But steady progress is being made. The economy added 60,000 more jobs in November and December than previously reported.

In addition, average hourly earnings rose four cents, which should help to support spending. The report suggested that expectations of a slowdown in U.S. economic growth in the first quarter were not yet impacting on companies' hiring decisions.

Employment in the private sector surged 257,000 - the largest gain since April. Government payrolls fell 14,000, the least since September.

U.S. economic growth accelerated to a 2.8 percent annual rate in the final three months of 2011, but it was widely expected to slow as businesses ease back on efforts to rebuild inventories and exports slip amid a likely recession in Europe.

Some economists cautioned that January's jobs figures could overstate the pulse of the recovery, citing still lackluster consumer confidence, income and spending growth.

While some said the jobless rate could drop below 8 percent by year end, others warned it would likely move up in the near-term as people who had given up the search for a job re-enter the workforce.

"For this to mark an upturn in the labor market, then businesses will have to continue to hire on this scale throughout the winter," said Kathy Bostjancic, director of macroeconomic analysis at the Conference Board in New York.

CAUTIOUS OPTIMISM

The unemployment rate has now declined for five straight months, although part of the drop reflects discouraged Americans giving up the hunt for work.

A broad measure of unemployment, which includes people who want to work but have stopped looking and those working only part time but who want more work, slipped to a near three-year low of 15.1 percent in January from 15.2 percent in December.

Revisions to the payrolls figures showed 180,000 more jobs were created last year than previously believed.

Mild winter weather boosted employment last month in construction, which added 21,000 jobs after a 31,000 increase in December. Manufacturing payrolls surged 50,000, the largest gain in a year, after rising 32,000 the prior month.

Overall, the goods-producing sector added 81,000 jobs last month, the most since January 2006.

Transportation and warehousing employment increased 13,100 and courier jobs only fell 1,500. Last month, the Labor Department reported a large increase in courier jobs in December, but revisions showed they actually declined.

Retail employment rose 10,500 after gaining 6,200 in December. Temporary help services jumped 20,100 after rising 8,300, a potentially good sign for future permanent hiring.

Heavy snow closes schools, disrupts flights in Denver (Reuters)

DENVER (Reuters) ? A winter storm walloped eastern Colorado with its first heavy snow of the new year on Friday, closing schools, forcing flight cancellations at Denver International Airport and creating blizzard conditions on the High Plains.

A foot of snow piled up in the Denver metropolitan area, with up to 2 feet reported in the foothills west of the city, said Frank Cooper, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Boulder, Colorado.

Cooper said a warm, moisture-laden air mass from the Gulf of Mexico collided with colder northern air over southeastern Colorado to unleash the snowstorm east of the Continental Divide.

Sustained winds of 30 miles per hour on the Plains created blizzard conditions that severely reduced visibility on highways, but forecasters said the snow was expected to taper off by Friday night.

Most school districts in eastern Colorado, including Denver, announced Thursday night, ahead of the storm, that they would be closed on Friday.

Interstate 70 was closed to east-bound traffic from Denver to Limon, Colorado, said Mindy Crane, a spokeswoman for the state Transportation Department. The interstate also was shut westbound from the Kansas border to Limon due to blowing and drifting snow.

Denver International Airport remained open, but about 600 incoming and departing flights were canceled on Friday, airport officials said in a recorded message.
